AHHH! Thanks so much Jon and Mike! I'm feeling much better about this subject now. I guess the only question I have is I'm using the outdoor present and the 812 filter, Do I take the filter off, and just put it back on again? Since this preset is kind of a auto setting how should a filter be applied without canceling its objective?
You know what I mean?
Anyway thanks so much for the info!

Todd,

If you are using the PD150's outdoor preset, then the 812 filter can be left on and it will remain effective. The PD150's outdoor preset is a locked balance. So the color balance shouldn't drift. It's not an auto mode.

Mike,

Have you ever used the preset color selection on the DSR-300A or newer? I have often used the preset color feature in the DSR-500WSL/1 and DSR-300A to match cameras. Sony started building in the option of rolling the color up or down when in the preset mode. It's pretty cool. You can set the camera to preset white balance, and select preset in the menu and then manually change the color in small increments up or down. You can easily dial in a color from 2100 to 4400 in Tungsten or from 4300 to 6900 in Daylight. Aside from being able to manually choose the color balance I desire, it allows you to easily match color balance from camera to camera. The option only started with the 300A and 500L/1 series though. The original 300 and 500 didn't offer this. I know the original 500 and (if I remember correctly), the original 300 offered the option to switch the 3200 preset to 3000, but that's it. Next time you need to match a couple 300A's or 500L/1's, give it try. It's definately a useful tool.

I've got the original 300 so I haven't played with it.
