PD Audio Question
 

Could someone please explain to me about
the XLR routing. The manual is not clear on this.
It seems to imply that, if you hav a mic on Input 1,
you can send that audio to either the Left
channel by selecting "CH 1" or to both channels
by selecting "CH 1.2". I recently recorded
with one mic in Input 1 and another mic in
Input 2. I monitored both Inputs with
headphones and watched the meters dancing
but when I played the tape back on another
camera I only heard Input 1. I assumed
if I can hear both inputs and the meters are
dancing that both are being recorded but now
it seems that's not the case. Or is Input 2
recorded somewhere? Could someone
enlighten me?
P.S. Seeing as I didn't want Input 1 to go
to both channels, I set the selector swith to
"CH 1" when I made this recording.

It works the way you would expect.

What happens when you play it back on the camera you used to record it?

What Mike said. If you heard both the channels and saw both meters dancing then the audio is there.
How was everything set-MIC/MICATT/LINE 48V-what was plugged into ch2?
Any info you could provide so we can figure it out.

Was the other camera set up for 2 channel audio?

I feel stupid. The audio *was* there. The cam (Panny DV53) that I hooked up to a TV to play the tape back only does mono-out. (The on-board mic is mono.) In my panic,
I didn't think it through.
What would happen if I were to have two
seperate mics, with each plugged into
the two inputs, and I had the cam set to
"CH1.2"? Would I not be recording anything
through Input 2?

No, I did that once also, (I've made all the goofs at one time or another, some more than once just to make sure ;-o)
and with the switch to 1&2, the 2nd mic kinda disappears.

As for what you did, hey, one time I'm doing a wedding and during the ceremony I can't hear anything in my headphones, it was there then it's gone. OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!WHAT DO I DO?!?!?! OH NO?!?!? then I decided that I could probably hear thru my headphones better if I bothered to plug them in.

Moral to the story, we all do goofs, no biggie, glad you got it going!
