Tape Loading: Has This Happened To You

I have a VX and never had this happen.
I just got a PD. I loaded a tape like normal,
and when I went to record I received a
message that there was no cassette, despite
there actually being one loaded. Is this
normal? Is there maybe something
wrong with the PD?

Tommy Haupfear January 2nd, 2004 11:34 AM

That has never happened on either of the two VX2000s I've used or the PDX10.

Is it a new cam? Is it with one particular tape? Can you repeat the error or is it sporadic?

Nope it's never happened BUT there is always a first time.
Unload the tape, reload and see what happens. Sometimes it feels like its all the way in but isn't. HMMMMM, that sounds...well it sounds sexual. SORRY!

It *is* a new cam. It only happened once. I
re-loaded and it was fine.
Don, I think you can tell I'm having a
rough couple days.

Is the "Save" tab on the cassette in the "Save" or "Record" position? Give it a check. I've had wierd things come up when the tab gets moved to the save position.

This problem has re-occured a number of times.
I figured out what the problem is and I can reproduce it.
I have had a VX for a while. The PD is new. The PD outside cassette door (and the inside door also) requires noticably more effort to get it to catch upon closing than the VX. I first noticed this upon closing the door it would pop right back open, when I used the same force as with the VX. What I'd do then is push it shut harder to get it to latch.
These Sonys have a mechanism built in where
if you try to close the outside door and it doesn't
catch, the camera will eject the cassette. You may
not have noticed this. I didn't. But I tried it
with the VX and sure enough.
What was happening with the PD is, I'd try to close the
PD door, it would pop back open, so I'd push it
harder and close it. What was happening was,
after I closed the door the second time, unbeknownst to me, the cam would eject the cassette. Outwordly
everything looked fine, door closed. But the inside
cassette door had popped open and was pushing
against the outside door.
