Stupid minidv vs dvcam question

Alright, I hate arguing with people when i'm not 100% positive what i'm talking about so can somebody answer me a question.

The pd170 and vx2100 put out the same picture correct? like the resolution is exactly the same. am I wrong?

And then beyond that what features make it more desirable for professionals, I know about the xlr inputs, more mircons per tape to make it less prone to dropouts and smpte timecoding but I just kind of want this cleared up.

Thanks.

Steve,
From your location you show Fayetteville NC and NY.
First off let me ask you are you in the service? If so I'll assume you are stationed at Ft. Bragg? Man I spent some time there a very long time ago before I went off to RVN.

Anyway, yes, the quality of the image of the 170 and 2100 are the same, BUT the 170 gives you more control and easier control of the image as well as the XLR's and I believe easier control of the audio. So when someone says the 170 gives a better quality image than the 2100 actually they may not be wrong-it just depends on how the cameras are set up.
Oh yeah I forgot, the 170 does DV and DVCAM the 2100 only DV

Good Luck,
Don

Yes Don, to my dismay i'm in Fayetteville. I'm actually a computer dork in the Air Force. Thanks for clearing up my question about the picture quality for all intensive purposes on the vx2100 and pd170 are the same. I realize the pd170 is a much stronger camera and better suited for the professional, but I just had to clear that up. If anybody else would like to comment on any other features that set the dvcam models apart from the rest please enlighten me.

The 170 is sold and supported by Sony's Pro division and that makes a significant difference if you have problems or just have a question about the camera.

You also get the WA adapter with the 170.
