Tapes and Rain cover for DSR390

Hi all,I need some infos about my 390PK1.
It's possible to use miniDV tapes on the camera? I think yes but the manual is not clear.
Any experience?
If yes there are some settings to change in the menus?
About Rain cover I'm thinking to buy Portabrace SC-D500 to film sport events outdoor.
Any experience,advice,about this cover?
Thanks to all and sorry for my poor english.
Maurizio,Italy.

Yes you can.

I run mini tapes all the time.

No, the tape transport automatically accommodates them. Insert them in the middle of the opening.

No, I take a smaller camera out in the rain so I don't know.

Be careful when inserting a mini tape. They work fine but you have to be careful and stick them in right in the middle.

I've never seen anything made by Portabrace that didn't do what it was supposed to. I don't have a rain cover but have seen lots of them on TV station cameras. They seem very well designed.

For me, one of the best things for shooting in the rain, if you have an assistant along with you, is one of those big golfing umbrellas. They are big enough to keep you, the camera and the assistant dry. Or, if you're not going to be moving around, you can put one on a C-stand.
