Polarizing Filters
 

What are some good polarizers for a VX-2100? Is it possible to mount one under another lens (ex. Tele or wide)? It seems like alot of people talk about tiffens on here, should i go with them?

Yes, you can polarise the light at any point on its travels through all those lens elements. Go with any name you've heard of and remember - you don't need a circular polarisor - a linear one is just as good and a lot cheaper.

I don't think it is a good idea to introduce another lens element between an auxiliary and the prime lens. The auxiliary lens was not designed for that situation and the effects may be a poorer image. Furthermore, the rotating joint of the filter may not be up to the task of holding the weight of the auxiliary lens and may be damaged or completely fail, possibly damaging the auxiliary lens and certainly the filter.

This issue has been discussed to death on this and other forums. Please do a search to read everything that can be said about the subject.

Mounting polarizers between wide angle lenses can cause the lens to vignette. Mounting it between a telephoto lens will change the focal length slightly and may slightly lower the image quality.

I tried mounting a tiffen round polarizer on my pd-170 prime but I couldn't fit on the sunshade as well. Does anyone have any tricks. I really want that sunshade.

I agree with Mike & Jeff. Use the polarizer on the front, not between lens elements.

My understanding is that you need to use a circular polarizer if you want the auto focus to work dependably.

I would choose a Hoya filter over a Tiffen when at all possible. All Tiffens are made from green glass, Hoya's are made from clear glass.
