What are the best camera mount mics for the VX2100 ??

I would like to know what you guys think are the best camera mount mics for the VX2100 in two catagories; for indoor use and also for outdoor use. And the best mount to use with the mic.

I was looking at the following mics for outdoors MKH-416, CS-1 and AT4073a.

Thanks,

Regards

Ray

You should be looking at the mic for it's characteristics. The mics are all excellent and their rating is in order of price. The different mics have recently been discussed at the Audio Forum here at DVinfo.net. The CS-1 would be the best all around mic, handling both indoor and outdoor dialog . The best mic is of course the MKH416. The 4073 is a quality mic but no MKH416. It wouldn't require preamplification for the VX2K as it has a "Hot output"

The 416,4073 and CS-1 will all need a decent shock mount and phantom power. The 416 and the CS-1 are 19mm diameter and the 4073 is 21mm. The 416 and 4073 will both hang about an extra inch to an inch and a half forward of the shoe. the CS-1 is onlt 7" but the available mounting area is so narroe that you'd have to use a K-Tek KSSM mount
It's $120 at B&H for the standard. This unit is also available in a shoe mount (only) for $85.
or
The lightwave mini mount.
It's $160 at B&H

I'd recomend using a mini rover (grip) to make the camera mic setup easier. Whatever mic you choose could be mounted over the Mini Rover grip. Look at the bottom of the linked page.

The Mini Rover is $50 at B&H

The biggie is that without preamplification (except 4073) you won't get the audio excellence that you'll be paying for. At absolute minimum that means something like the Beach DXA-8 or a small field preamp. See write up here.

The most ideal audio would come from an audio mods as outlined here
