Using VX2100 to Convert Analog VHS tape
 

I've been trying to capture a VHS tape using the Signal Convert Function on my VX2100. I believe I've followed the directions correctly in the manual...turning the A/V > DV Out "ON". I also changed the Easy Setup on my G5 to DV-NTSC DV Converter. When I play the VHS tape and try to capture using FCE, I'm not having any success.

Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone provide me with some direction?

Why not just copy the VHS tape to a DV tape and then import the normal way into your computer? It may take longer but it works every time.

I will try to copy the vhs tape and then import normally. My original intent was to use the best method to perserve the quality. However, at this point, I just want to get it into my computer! I'll let you know how I make out.

Do you get a timecode error in FCE ?

The quality that you get from using your camera to convert an analog signal to DV format "on the fly" as you capture into your computer is exactly the same as the quality that you get if you first use the camera to put the video on a DV tape, then import the content of the DV tape in the normal manner to your computer. The only advantage of using the "on the fly" technique is that the process to get the video into your computer takes half as much time as if you go to DV tape, then into the computer.
