Boyd, you're absolutely right. I guess I really am stuck in PAL thinking... Good job I don't give any client anything on VHS....

There certainly is a visible difference in shadow detail between 0 and 7.5 and if you are delivering a video tape of a bride where the reception and perhaps even the ceremony were dark with no lights allowed, the 7.5 becomes a big thing.

Personally, if I'm not creating something for television, I like the increased range of 0 ire when I can edit to take advantage of it. When you think that it is 7.5% of the total allowable signal (well, one can shoot up to 110 ire these days without getting into HV trouble with most televisions although not with LCDs!) you can get a nice increase in the dynamic range of the image.

On S-VHS, it looks good from a noise, signal dynamics and resolution standpoint.

Unfortunately these days I can make 6 DVDs or more for the cost of one S-VHS tape.
