[sony 170]Should I use uv filter with original hood?

Hello,
I would use a UV 58mm filter on my 170, to avoid lens scratch or damage.
When I have screwed this filter is there enough space to fit the original lens hood?Or I have to buy another one?

Does anyone use other ways to protect camera lenses? And for the wide angle?

Of course I have to take care...but sometimes ins't enough...

Bye Marco

i have vx2100 and i can put UV filter between lens and hood. I think 170 and 2100 have pretty much same body so it would fit your camera too...

But i usually never use my UV filter, cuz i never can't get it perfectly clean and if you film with it directly to the sun or something, you can see additional glass - filter. I use polarized filter, cuz its darker and gives better picture, but it does not fit between lens and hood cuz spinning ring on the filter.

I use UV when i shoot motorbikes though, poping rocks and dirt....

I've never had a problem with filters and the original UV hood... however you won't be able to fit some adapters to the camera with the hood, for example the Sony 0.7x WideAngle. I still need to hunt a nice hood (or maybe just get a cheap mattebox) for when its attached (99% of the time for me, and I get cranky when I'm asked not to use it :D)

Even when a hood/box isn't required, it just looks a lot more professional. The TRV950 is a great example of how adding a big piece of rubber to the end makes a massive difference to how "cool" the camera looks, and looks are important when people are paying you money for a job.
