how would you test a used vx2100?

local seller with "lightly" used camera

i want to check hours used (see previous post)

and now wondering out loud how others would "test drive" this camera.

any and all thoughts are appreciated.

I would first insect very carefully to see any possible damage that might be visible. Look at the LCD for scratches or funny looking area-areas that just don't look right. Do the same with the lens. Look at the front element and see if there any scratches or chips. I would also very lightly run my finger over the lens - sometimes yo can fel something that you can't see. Then put a tape in it and shoot some stuff. You don't need an hour just a few miuntes of say some people moving around, standing still, talking-bring a set of headphones with you-any kind will do for this and make sure you can hear the audio. Check the menus first and see where everything is set just to make sure its at factory or close to factory settings. If the WB is off or the CP is set to something kind of weird it can throw you. You'll probably hate this one but after you tape some stuff in the store, run it back and play it out to see what it looks like. Also ask about return policy and warranty.
Also I think if you give the serial number to Sony they can tell you when the camera was first sold to the distributor (whoever that might be) so you'll have an idea how old it is. Being its a 2100 it wouldn't be more than 2 or 3 years old.

The first thing I'd do is Reset the camera so you are testing it with factory defaults, no what someone else has set up.

The reset button is under the LCD towards the back of the camera and is just a small hole with the word Reset next to it.
