DXA-10 drastically reduced the background noise

Well as some of you may know I've been experimenting with various audio setups trying to reduce the noise floor so I can crank up the sensitivity in order to record wildlife in the distance. I had tried a good mic level preamp (Beachtek DXA-8) but was disappointed by the noise from the internal vx2100 amps because with mic level most of the gain is coming from the vx2100. Well I just received the Beachtek DXA-10 which has line level outputs thus moving almost all of the gain outside of the vx2100. The reduction in noise is absolutely amazing and the background noise has been nearly eliminated. I'm sure I could reduce it even further with the Greg Winters mod but I'm happy with the performance I get from the DXA-10 on my stock vx2100 (at least for now).

Chad, stop what you're doing and order a DXA-10 right now for your NTG-2! You'll be amazed at the difference. Sure the DXA10 doesn't offer limiters and won't mount directly to your vx2100 but the reduction in noise is well worth it. The Videosmith Rover Aux Box that I'm using works great and I've got the DXA-10 neatly mounted right underneath my vx2100.

The level of sevice offered by Beachtek is out of this world. Harry at Beachtek has been super-duper helpful. Now I just wish they would come out with a DXA-10 that had limiters and built-in mounting (email Harry and make a request, if interested).

John
