My VX-1000 WONT GO BELOW 60i shutter speed. Need help.
 

Everything else works fine. I can adjuct the shutter all the wasy to the top 10000i or whatever the top number is and back down to 60i. But when it comes to 30i, 15i, 8i, etc it won't go there anymore. I checked to see if any switches were on (lock, hold, etc) everything checked out. What is it? Motherboard? Anyone else have this problem with any of there cameras? I know the VX-1000 is almost 10 years old but still. Is it a sign that its about to go? Any hints clues? Also does anyone know where I can get it repaired for below $500.00.

Are you possibly confusing frame rates with shutter speed? The VX has two frame rates - 60 interlaced frames per second (60i) and 15 progressive frames per second (15p). Unfortunately that's all there is... no 30i, 15i or 8i.

I think you're talking about shutter speeds which are expressed as fractions of a second (eg: 1/60, 1/30, 1/8). Make sure you're in full manual mode with autolock switch in the center. My VX2000 is a little confusing with this - first try pushing the shutter speed button. The current speed should appear highlighted on the screen. If this doesn't happen then push the iris button and it should appear. Whenever the shutter speed is highlighted then turning the menu wheel should give it a full range of adjustment. After setting the shutter you can push the iris button again and use the wheel to set your aperture.

[edit] Oops - just noticed you have a VX-1000. I was talking about the 2000 which may be different...

Yes, I'm pretty sure the VX1000 didn't have shutter speeds slower than the default setting (1/50th sec in PAL land), so there's no need to go looking for them. The Panasonic DVX100 was like this too.

The digital zoom was on or off. Anyways once I hit that switch it started working again. Thanx everyone for the suggestions.

Hey, don't talk about the vx-1000 in the past tense like it is deceased! :)
My vx-1000e goes as low as 1/3 shutter speed, from the top of my head, so it can certainly go below 1/50

A lot of VX1000s are 10 or 11 years old now Steven, and it's a tribute to the tough build quality that so many are still happily out there recording as well as they ever did. And thanks for putting me right as to the slow shutter speeds that are available. I shall spread the word.
