PD170 problem

I've notice on my last 2 projects that the first 0 to 20 sec. of recorded video has digital break ups on it then is fine after that...I only use sony DVM60 tapes...anybody know what could be causing this? I use a TRv900 as a play source to dump into my editor...when I used the pd170 as a player the break ups where still there but didn;t last nearly as long?

Do you mean from the physical beginning of the tape or just from the point at which the Record button is pushed?

I Lay down 15 seconds of black then the dig. break up occurs spontaniously at times any where from 1 to 20 seconds after I hit the record button.

I had this probelm on both my 150 and 250 but found out it happened to be a particular box of tapes in the batch I had. Once I got thru that batch everything was back to normal. I had no idea of course that it ws happening and was quit worried for a bit afterwards but found after testing tapes thru out the batch that it was just that 1 box of 5.

Not to say that's the problem for you but...

I have had a similar problem on a couple of tapes and they were both right at the beginning.

Odd, I just shot an expo and had the same problem practically.

I shot bars for the 1st 10 seconds on the tape and then started shooting my subject. When I reviewed the footage, the bars blended into the 1st 3 seconds after the bars and no audio was recorded for those 3 seconds.

It wasn't complete bars either. It was half bars and half of the subject. Glad it only happened for the 1st 3 seconds, but this kind of error really makes me worry.
