PDX-10 vs PD 150
 

Wish to purchase a new camera...most work is for event coverage...half low light work...half out of doors...also up close interviews etc. Own a DV 500 ,a 5 year old XL-1 and a beta cam. Editing with FCP and DSR 40 deck. Not as concerned about cost but am concerened about overall performance, size/ weight and reliability. Would greatly appreciate preferences about these 2 cameras. I did some image comparisons between the vx-2000 and pdx-10 at http://www.greenmist.com/pdx10. The PDX-10 is not as good as the PD-150 in low light, maybe 1 f-stop different. You don't mention 16:9... I think that's the most compelling reason to get the PDX-10, although you mention size and weight. The 10 is significantly smaller and lighter than the 150. If you don't need native 16:9 you will probably be happier with the PD-150.

For a lot of my work, the PD150 is great. Low light level capability make it great.

The only problem I have with it is it just does not handle fast enough in manual mode. That's not a condemnation, just the facts.

Where things change rapidly and I need manual mode operation, my DSR-300 works much faster than the 150. Has a slightly better picture but not really noticable. and a slightly inferior low-light capabilites but it compensates quite a bit by having a superior DSP so contrasty conditions are handled a bit better.

If I need good pictures and easy handling, I use the PD150. If I need the best picture and fast handling, I use the DSR-300.

All of my DSR-300 preference goes out the window, BTW, if I have to carry it very far or very fast.

PD150 is very reliable. It is rated 2 lux, which is about 2 F-stops better than PDX10.
