When Philips came out with an SD camera years ago with a 1/2 inch sensor the difference they claimed between the DOF of the 1/2 inch and the DOF of a 2/3 inch sensor was about one stop. If you were shooting 2.8 with the 1/2 chip the DOf was about the same as shooting at 4 with 2/3 inch chip at the same angle of view. This was a pretty big advantage for the 2/3 inch chip. I would expect a similar difference between 1/3 and 1/2 advantage to the 1/2. Using the longer part of the lens and shooting wide open on the F Stop can help in all cases but you should have more margin for adjustment with the bigger chip.
