 Audio channels 3 & 4?

In the EX1 manual, it refers to meda mode playback of audio channels CH-1/CH-2/CH-3/CH-4 - any idea what they are referring to with CH-3/CH-4?
I know the EX1 only records 2-channel audio, but is the CH-3/CH-4 referring to media playback of audio from other devices (that capture video to SxS cards) if the other devices supported more than 2 channels of audio? |

I just read the owner's manual and have the same question. Before posting I searched this forum for the answer, but only found the same question here. Anyone know more about channels 3 & 4?
It's a pity that the EX1 can't at least record the internal microphone to channels 1 and 2 and the external audio inputs to channels 3 and 4 at the same time. It's clear that that isn't possible with the current model, yet there are references to audio channels 3 & 4 in the manual. |

Has anybody figured this out yet? I just got am EX1 and was going through the manual when I came across the info you can record from the on board mic and a external mic at the same time, which is disappointing. Then I saw this CH 3 and CH 4 deal.

My guess (I do not own the camera) is that this either a future-proofing option for cameras that will support SxS and record to those other two channels.
OR...like the Panasonic HVX-200 Channels 3 and 4 always record the internal camera microphone. I've found this feature to come in hand when you want ambiance for a movie and forgot to record some OR when transcribing documentaries it is easier to hear the interviewer/reporter's questions/comments. |
