Yes, I guess once you get MEM A&B to 5600 & 3200, you could leave them there and if you really want to fine tune, you will have to change the profile WB.

I'm really not finding changing the profile that big of a deal. Once you call up that parameter, It remembers the last parameter setting your adjusting. So when you press the picture profile button, you're back to the the WB setting.

About the wish to have 1080p60/50... if this http://www.dpreview.com/news/0801/08010601casiof1.asp can do it without even being a motion camera... so sony should really consider adding 1080p60/50

Have to quote my earlier wish.. I DIDN'T notice that there's a shutter on/off switch front of the camera:P That pretty much makes my previous wish absolette.

White Balance

I have a feeling this camera might be a little bit more complex than we realise. In one of the menus for setting WB it's not a simple matter of adjusting the CT, there's also a set of matrix adjustments. This seems to make some sense to me. Two light sources of the same CT may not be identical and produce different colour renditions. The camera does seem to spend a fair amount of time doing its WB thing so there might be quite a lot of calculations going on to get precise WB.

So what Sony might be not saying is sure you can just dial in a number or store a WB setting for say daylight but it's not as good as it can be working that way. I've noticed something not unlike this on other cameras, you can dial in Daylight or Tungsten but even with a tungsten light you need to do a little CCing in post to get it really spot on.

Having said that, it'd still be good to have the option to have A and B as 'near enough' settings for daylight and tungsten.

Tuomas, funny you mention the Casio as I saw this at CES and after I saw it, I posted my 1080 60p wish. Even if somehow they could make it work. I would be happy with 30 seconds or a Minute of HQ on a 16GB card. I understand the 1080 60p is probably not going to happen but hey it is a wish list! I am going to buy an EX1 but someday I hope to be able to get a 120fps or 300fps+ camera because those ultra slow mo shots of high speed motion are very very impressive!

Eric Pascarelli January 9th, 2008 01:39 AM

I just held that Casio today at CES - one of the reps had an almost working prototype strapped around his neck.

I have been watching this camera for some time as a possible (really cheap) RED substitute.

But what I found out today is that it will record 60fps at 6 megapixels, but only for one second. Or 30fps for two seconds. Or any speed from 1 to 60, but with a maximum 60 frame buffer.

Audio Only Recording

I wish there was a way to only record audio and no video files. Would come in real handy for those long voice-over sessions when you're recording into the camera.

Meta-data

OK, here's one for Sony to consider: include more camera data for readout in XDCAM Transfer. Which Picture Profile a clip was recorded with would be a good start. Even my PD150 allows me to readout aperture, etc. Having to manually log something as important as the picture profile being used is really unacceptable.

In hope Sony reads it (or Chris will be as nice as he was with the Canon A1 update wishilst:)) - here is one more:

Peaking being more or less apparent depending on circumstances, I wish the peaking button was multifunctional in that it cycled trough: off/low/medium/high, rather than just on/off...

Paul Kellett January 29th, 2008 06:00 AM

An icon on the screen displaying the fact that peaking is on,as people have noticed, when zoomed in or on expanded you can't see the peaking, sometimes i've switch peaking on then off then back on etc beacuse i can't see it,then i have to zoom out and check.just a little icon would be nice, something like the little OIS waving hand.

i heard there will be firmware update in March, let's hope so. The only thing I learned that will def be on it will be the ability to take 32gb cards. Other than that I guess we just have to wait!

Raymond Schlogel February 3rd, 2008 04:53 AM

I would feel loved if the rolling shutter issue was somehow resolved. IMHO its a pretty nasty effect that we shouldn't have to deal with. Would NOT want to show clips to a client and have to explain what the hell it is and why my oh so fancy camera can't fix it.

Phil Bloom February 3rd, 2008 05:00 AM

Is that not a cmos hardware issue?

Bill Ravens February 3rd, 2008 08:43 AM

The only thing Sony MIGHT be able to do is up the scan rate.

Phil Bloom February 3rd, 2008 08:48 AM

I'm hoping that the firmware update will give it a tape drive so i can record HDV if I need to, and also give me the option to stretch the camera like a bellows box so I can put it on my shoulder if I want. That would be nice.

Those Sony software guys are very clever, you never know!

Andrew Wilson February 3rd, 2008 12:34 PM

Useful shot marks

more of a request for the XDCAM transfer software but I wish I could filter out clips that had a shot marker in them.

That way I could add a shot marker to the good takes while shooting and only import them.

I know I can easily scroll through all my clips and look for ones with shot markers and mark them as good and then filter those out, but that's a pain... At least add a keyboard shortcut to mark a clip as good...

Clark Peters February 4th, 2008 09:04 AM

I'd like a more accurate presentation of the histogram. The edges of the box are not the edges of the allowable range. At the very least I'd like indicators for 0, 10, 50, 90, and 100.

Steven Thomas February 4th, 2008 11:03 AM

If Sony could of upped the CMOS scan rate, they would of.

If this is possble via software, all I can say is please offer this upgade.

Piotr Wozniacki February 5th, 2008 03:44 AM

Dear Sony, if you're reading this please improve the highlights compression algorithm, so that foreground object do not act as an ND filter against brighter background, causing non-uniform white clipping of the background as described here:

Sami Sanpakkila February 5th, 2008 04:14 AM

I wish they would fix the zoom top handle problem discussed here:

http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=112004

On slow speeds z1-z10 the zooming is not smooth but stutters.

As the firmware update is probably coming, I'd like to revive this thread with my next wish:

- put the TLCS Level setting into the Picture Profiles, so that auto iris can be best suited to the gamma, knee and black settings used in each PP!

Keith Malone March 4th, 2008 10:50 AM

A firmware upgrade that would prevent the EX1 from draining the main battery when the camera is turned OFF.

Jason Bodnar March 19th, 2008 08:44 PM

If anyone has a Sony contact or will be calling sony ask what are the updates with the new Firmware update they have started to input into some units. Mine is V1.03-0351 and I got it last week, but some folks that sent their's in for repair are starting to get them back with V1-05-0405...What does this do? Also when will a Firmware update be released to the public for user update via USB?

Craig Seeman March 20th, 2008 04:14 AM

It just makes sense that since NAB is just a few weeks away that if any firmware updates add features such release might happen around NAB. Sony may not be in a rush to distribute a maintenance update if a more significant one is just around the corner. One can hope. One can wish that they've read this thread too.
