Sandisk SxS cards released
It seems like Sandisk has released 8 and 16 Gb SxS cards now. I have not found them anywhere in stock but if you google for them you will find them in several on-line stores. The product ID is: SDX-VS-016G-E101 for the 16 Gb version and I've found it for approximately US$723.
Abelcine is selling the Sony 16 Gb card for US$875 so it seems to be a small step in the right direction. :-) If only Sony would release that firmware upgrade so we can use ordinary cheap Expresscard memory soon... |
If only these would work ?!!
http://www.offtek.co.uk/express34.ph...FQ5OQgod6GuMXg ever hopeful Paul This is just to illustrate how cheap it could get in the future |
If it gets that cheap, the necessary camera
costs like nothing ;-) |
Those Transcend cars have writing speeds of 8mb/sec. They won't get you far, nothing to do with firmware. HQ footage is 35mb/sec and SP 25mb/sec. So no, it is impossible to compare these cards at this moment.

Where did you find them.. for 723.00
Thanks |
I found the Sony branded 8GB for 326 EURO and the 16GB for 586 EURO EX VAT. I think that are affordable prices. I am planning to buy an extra 16GB with my camera so I have 32GB in total (2x8GB, 1x16GB). This gives me 100 minutes of HQ recording or 160 minutes of SP recording. That's enough for all things I am planning to shoot and combined with a Macbook Pro and an external WD Passport 2.0 USB stick a robust SxS workflow.

The scandisk cards work
Just talked to a new suplier yesterday, and he told me that he was jusing the scandisk cards in his ex1 RIGHT NOW...And that they had a good price tag on them.
|
And what is the price? He should be able to tell you that.

The price listed at that sandisk link is more than I paid at B&H for the 16GB Sony SxS card.
|
If Henry Posner (or anyone else with knowledge of the inner workings of B+H) is around, I'd love to know when B+H will be carrying the SanDisk cards, and whether they'll be any cheaper than the Sony equivalents? The list price on the SanDisk cards IS cheaper than the list on the Sony cards, but (as the last poster noted), it's actually more expensive than B+H is selling the Sony 16 GB card for.
