You can use both Mac and PC versions of clip browser to export multiple clips to "MXF for NLE" and these MXF's can be imported directly into Avid Media Composer 3, FCP (via Sony Transfer Tool), Vegas and any other NLE that supports MXF. There is no transcoding so no generation loss and the files are small so don't fill up lots of disc space.

It won't decode the AES audio stream.. at least not for the XDCAM HD that I am using with the F350.

VLC media player will play anything and works on both platforms. It was able to play back 50mbs 4:2:2 directly from the PDW-700 as far back as June when we tried it at Sony HQ.

I second that. AVID Media Composer 2.7.7 didn't take my converted MXFs at a client's site. AVID MC 3.0 does accept the files.

FFmpeg and MXF

For your information, FFmpeg can now create D-10 MXF files and XDCAM HD 422 files compatible with Avid Media Composer and "import" into bin feature.

You can even "stream copy" (no reencode) mpeg-2 essences assuming these are "compliant".

I'm trying to know if Media Comp can actually import DNxHD OP1a files directly so I can add support. Any information regarding this is welcome.

Baptiste,

Great find about the MXF conversion. Would you mind posting your ffmpeg command line for this conversion?
