I've Never Seen This Before - Blacks Too Black

This is real important and interesting so I hope I can explain it right. Just did some test shots - indoor with lights - still life stuff, using the High Sat matrix with Cine4. Remember with HDV you could never get the black deep enough and you always ended up in post doing that infamous "S" curve on levels? Well I got blacks at -10 and needed to do a REVERSE "S" curve to see any details in my blacks. What this means and what tinkering I need do I don't know yet - not enough experience - but it sure is interesting. Blew my mind when I looked at the Vector-scope and saw a dynamic range like I never ever seen before. Instead of trying to maximize dynamic range I was needing to shrink it! I'm really mind blown (or gob smacked if you are on the left side of the pond)..... Any comments welcome.

Where was the scope?

I refer to the scopes in Sony Vegas when looking at the .mxf files. Incidentally, the shape of the histogram in Vegas is quite different from as shown on the LCD during shooting.

Yes, I've noticed this, too. And the Vegas histogram looks more realistic.

In 8 or 32 bit?

Vegas decodes differently in 8bit and 32bit.
