Compressor can make .m2t files. Many folks aren't aware because there's no preset for it. You have to roll your own, but it can be done. MPEG Streamclip will do the trick also.

Craig... I actually tried the MPEGStreamclip application. It won't recognize the MPEG4's generated by the EX-1.. tried it a couple times. And believe me... there is NO conversion app or feature included on the disk I got with my camera. It's simply for transfer and clip browsing.... or if it is... as mentioned, it says my computer won't run it.

Which Sony support number would you all refer me to with questions?

many thanks..

MPEGStreamclip won't recognize the MP4. It WILL recognized those wrapped in MOV. Please read my above post. You can hand such MOVs to your Windows friends and they can use MPEGStreamclip to convert them to another format. This is not a lossless workflow. It's a save your bacon workflow when you DO NOT have the original MP4s.

VLC will allow to play the original MP4s if all you want to do is see them on your computer. The G4 is a meager CPU by today's standards and Leopard is really pushing the limit on that system.

The Sony XDCAM Transfer Tool, which does NOT come on the camera CD does work on PPC but you'd still need the codec installed which comes with FCP 6.0.2. Neither of the above will fare well on a G4 though.

I'd recommend you get a MacBookPro for about $2000 and you'll have blazing fast transfer of your stock footage with its Express port. You'd then be able to view and archive your footage with the free Sony Clip Browser that is on the CD (does not work on PPC Macs).
