The EX1 doesn't have a menu option where you choose what it's component puts out? I've got to test this next time I use one.

I am OK with a setup under 2K. Let me know if you find the info. Is there a brand that specializes in this niche that I could look into? The stock LCD is terrific for initial focus (with the magnification option) but there are times that I simply can not see that I've lost focus to DOF as the subject approaches the camera (surfing, etc). It will also be useful to have a more readable histogram.

Based on specifications, this monitor doesn't support 1080p, either (apart from 24PsF, which is embedded in 60i). No native 24 or 25p, though.

I'm not Paul, but I'm sure he uses the old trick of *interpreting fields as frames*.

This doubles the length of the footage (at the expense of the resolution), and allows for a very quick and good looking (artifact-free) half-speed slo-mo.

I don't understand why all of these LCD monitors are so expensive when their resoultion seems low to me.

Computer LCD monitors (while I know are mass produced and are not as special as broadcast monitors) have been high resolution and costing in the low hundreds for a long time.

I would rate focus and exposure as being the most important elements for a preview monitor. And this seems pretty obtainable with a computer LCD, it's just that they are all A/C and often too large for location work.
