Cavision EX1 Matte box

Is this matte box available now?
B&H shows it as accepting orders, not in stock.

It seems like a great buy. Has anyone tried this rig?

I do not want to say too much just yet as I placed a big order with Cavision and had some problems with the matte box that they were "slow" to correct until I spoke of canceling my contract with them and go with Redrockmicro who's matte box will be available in a month or so. They have promised to do me right and a new matte box is on the way. I will reply fully if this post is still alive when I am satisfied.

No doubt it is a functional box and their prices are good, and the box fits perfectly with the EX1. They have one made just for the EX1. Filters are on the side, not bottom, no need for swing-away and polaroid goes nearly full circle. With their adapter it fits seculy without rails.

If you order say you are with/through Mike Stevens of Lenses35 as they have promised to double check the quality of any one with my company or who I reccomend.

That's terrible! You shouldn't have to name drop to make sure the product you buy is up to scratch!!!

Thanks Michael.

Was the problem you had with this same matte box for the EX1?

I plan on buying the package with the rails. At around $700, that sounds like a good buy.

I take you'd rather not share your problem with the box?

The problem with the box was that the rotating unite bound and it seems each box needs some working to get it to rotate smooth. With mine some loose screws had got into the mechanism and done some damage. The box is functional and I will be happy when I get a good one but it is not tight with definitive feel like a Chrosziel, but it is one third of the price.

Looks nice and the price is definitely attractive. The only thing I find problematic is that you cannot vertically adjust the filter in the fixed slot since it slides in from the side. This makes it impossible to use of a grad and a pola or two grads together. Not that itīs everyday but Iīve been doing that every now and then and would also like to have the possibility to do so.

I have two sets of Cavision carbon graphite rails and mounts. They're the best bang for the buck on the market. I'm very happy with mine. The shoulder rest is used with my EX1. I had to modify it bt drilling 4 holes to mount my IDX battery brick, but, now it's very well balanced. Great stuff. Add two handgrips to ther front and it's a very stable and comfy rig.
