I'm not really sure what you mean by that - would it make your subject line any less dumb? :-) Maybe you're just thinking that you could make up for a lack of forum etiquette by sitting on me and squashing me? I can't imagine!

I'm guessing that you thought that since the content of your post contained a question, that it would be a perfectly appropriate, and poetically finger-saving idea, to put the subject as ???

I'd also guessed that with > 90 posts, you might have already realised what might happen if everyone on this forum was equally clever and lazy and put ??? as their subject line, but I guess no.

So anyway, I thought I'd point it out with a feebly almost-humorous comment, in the hope that others won't follow your inspirational lead, and maybe, just maybe you'll think twice next time you start a post here containing a question. :-)

Still, It's not every time someone propositions me on a forum after one post, asking to meet up with me - I'm very flattered, but I have to point out - you know I'm a straight guy, right? :-)

What Chris is trying to say is you're more likely to attract the right people to your post if your subject line reflects the information you're trying to provide or the question you're trying to ask.

A string of question marks could be anything. And perhaps the person who might have been able to provide you a useful answer simply blew past it without giving it a second glance.

The forum is about sharing information, and it all starts with a clear and concise subject line.

That Tiget Direct price is interesting ($390), as the transcend USA web site lists it at $203.

I believe the write speed is 64Mbs (Megabits/sec), the 8 is 8MBs (MegaBYTES/sec). Nearly 2x the data rate of the EX, but I also suspect it won't work, but for reasons other than absolute speed.

Looks like USB type rather than PCIe type. EX1 needs PCIe type.

Nothing outside of Sony and Sandisk will work until EX1 firmware update. I believe at that point Sony will certify additional 3rd party cards. Sony has said this but I haven't heard a date for that firmware update.

Actually the Transcend data sheet says it supports PCIe and USB. Cannot tell by the 'look' of the card.

But unfortunately, Sony is excluding all except it's own cards, and presumably Sandisk.

What do you mean by that? How an EX1 will know that is not sony's card?

Firmware in the camera. Obviously something in Sony (and Sandisk) SxS card is detected by the camera.

Has anyone tested this with other disks or is just a "thought"?
Because this could be a no no for buying the camera. My vendor said to me that it can accept Sandisks. So he could be wrong.

Sandisk will definitely have an SxS card that works in EX1. They've announced it. They worked with Sony on the technology.

Sony has said there will be a firmware update and cheaper cards will be certified to work with the EX1. I've heard this first hand face to face from Sony reps. The question is WHEN. Of course they could always backtrack on that too.

Let's hope the firmware could be done by files loaded at an MS and not in services.

Good to see you over here from the Liquid forum. Does this mean that you have purchased the EX1 - or that you are thinking about it? The good news is that liquid works very well with the EX1 - so it will be an easy transition for you.

I have a Transcend 8 gig Express card, supposed to be pcie but behaves like a usb device, even when in the Express card slot of my laptop, alsoit is not recognised by the EX1.

I wish Simon would have stated which brand worked in the prototype.Agian this glitch my have been corrected by Sony on the production models.

Years ago i had a Sony cam which recorded directly to DVD,the small DVD,s,when i put a DVD in other than Sony branded,a message popped up telling me to use a genuine sony dvd,how does the cam know ?
Same thing can happen with batteries,i had another Sony cam,put a non sony battery on and it would shut down.

There is an identifier on all recordable DVD's so burners can use the correct write strategy amongst other things.

For the rest, most things are "intelligent" now, from printer cartridges to batteries. They all contain a chip for management and such.

In Europe it is (often) not legal to use these to ward off competition. There have been (successful) suits against printer manufacturers to "open up" the (ink) market to 3rd party compatible products in the past.

Has anyone tried reformatting a transcend card? I believe the SxS cards use the FAT32 file system. Probably more complicated than this, but it might be worth a shot...

The camera does not recognize the card, so you cannot format it in the camera.

I was thinking actually of formatting it via software in a computer to match the SxS cards, not unlike tricking a tivo box to accept 3rd party drives.

I don't think even SxS cards will work that way. I think you HAVE to format in camera.
