This frame-grab from the Z1 shows what an aspherical single-element converter will give you. Not much telephoto (it's reduced to a 6.5x zoom) but lots of distortion-free wide-angle coverage. It's the same horizontal field of view as a 17 mm lens on my 35 mm SLR, but gives less vertical F o V because of the different aspect ratios.

If $1235 isn't out of your price league, then yes. It's always a good idea to evaluate the market before laying your money on the counter, and real street prices can vary noticeably. Remember a 0.75x will make your EX1 see in 24 mm wide-angle terms (35 mm SLR). Nice and wide, but not super-wide by any means.
