New EX1/3 Wide angle

Has anyone tried the New 16x9 Inc. EX 0.75X Aspheric Wide Converter for Sony PMW-EX1/EX3? Did not link since they are not a sponsor.

it would be great to have a wide angle with a lot less distortion then the .8 x Sony.

Hi Paul,

It looks like it might be the Zunow lens I tried out a few moths ago. If it is that lens rebranded ( I was told they would rename it when released in the US) I would recommend trying it before buying because although it had less barrel distortion the sample I tried was noticably softer than the Sony 0.8.

Thanks Alexander I will hold off for now and see if anyone else has given it a go.

At more than double the price tag? That would be too bad if it was soft. I can understand the extra $ for wider and less barrel distortion.

I agree Ted the .8x Sony is getting old with the distortion. A few clients have told me not to use it. So it looks like I will go from EX1 to EX3 so there are lens options.

By the way nice EX3 support. I was looking at it today and wondered if it would hook up well to my Zacuto rails? I am shopping today for a battery set up since my XDR Flash is on the way and needs 4pin XLR power. Also I need a power tap for the Zylight. Starting to get power hungry.

Curious if anyone has seen through a viewfinder how the revised Century zoom through wide angle is?

A 16 x 9 rep was in my favorite store with one last week, and I put it on an EX-1. It is remarkably free of distortion, and it looked sharp enough on the small screen. I was not able to check sharpness beyond a subjective impression. The lack of distortion makes it worth checking further.

Thanks Bob good first impression. Do you get a chance to compare to the .8x Sony?

Has anyone else done any field tests or bought the revised Century/Schneider wide angle for the EX3/EX1?

We've heard from a Schneider rep that the lens is one of the best they have ever made. Anyone plonked down the change for one and used it for a bit?

Yes, I bought the first one that arrived at B&H. It really is a high quality glass!

I tried on e on Saturday, here in Toronto. It's a big piece of glass!
Looks nice on the LCD, but camera is front heavy (keep this in mind). Seems like lot heavier than Sony 0.8. That's good? I guess more glass is in it.
This adapter is on my short list, but when I get it I will use it only with rail support because the weight.

P.S. One piece of info: new version has "MKII" on the body (just so you know what version you are looking at...).
