Short film shot with EX1 and Letus Ultimate
 

This was a short film that I entered in the latest DV Challenge contest.

Shot in 1080 24P with Nikon lenses.

Looks good. There were some nice cuts.
Having the 35mm adapter allows you to be far more creative.

Good "Film." You had some interesting shots...as well as some "cheesed" ones (like the cell phone ringing). The image in the dark office looks very film like. Also a good length, and good closing. Glad you are putting the Ultimate to use! I'm considering the "Elite."

First more extensive comments died on their way to the post. Here's my recollection of them.


A good flow and good look. Nothing techie to take me out of the story on the first run through.

Observations on subsequent looks.

I am a bit of a slow-joe. Was there something about the coffee cups I was meant to pick up as a clue? If not, one close-up on a coffecup and tilt would have done me.

Were you shoulderholding the EX1/Ultimate and using a loupe on the LCD viewfinder or hand-holding it out front a little?

There was a hint of operator fatigue in the signature tilt to the right of shoulder holding or maybe this was a deliberate decision for creative purposes.

If you are just resting the bare rails on shoulder, a piece of black foam hotwaterpipe insulation, taped around the left rail and two pieces, one wrapped around the other on the right outboard rail helps a bit as the camera tends to ride more level rather than fall outboard to the right.

Same goes for a simple shoulder pad, bias it to the left with about an inch wide layer of 3/4" firm foam under the right outboard edge.

Pay little heed to my comments and keep doing what you do. It is well.

Nothing about the coffee cups. The only 'clue' was that Patrick's (aka John Payne which BTW, is my cameo appearance) coffee cup appears with him and then again in his office.

Actually, I used the Redrock Shoulder Mount system with a TV Logic 7" HDSDI monitor for focusing/framing. It has masking for the 2.35:1 aspect ratio which is really nice.

Probably fatigue. Never noticed it myself, I'll have to look again.

I'm wondering what the big difference is going to be between the Elite and the Ultimate.
I really like the Ultimate. It's WAY sharp. It looks gorgeous on my 30" Dell LCD monitor in full 1080 24P.
