PHU60K - any updates on reliability?
Im shooting a 3 day 3 camera new years event this year, 2 ex3s and my ex1.
We've got a ton of cards.. 32 gigs per camera (Which is tons coming from P2) However we've also been offered a PHU60k recorder and according to the rental company its very reliable - not what i've heard on this forum. The prodution for some reason want to use it.. i dont know why, we have 2 offloading stations on site downloading to raid0 drives.. Like i said, i've been doing these kinds of gigs with p2 for awhile.. offloading isnt a problem. Should i make sure we stay clear of the PHU60? or do i have nothing to worry about. Joe |
Yeah man,
We use it all the time. Plus I have sold them to people with no complaints. I think it was only the first batch that had issues. The only problem is you cant record under or over-crank on the drive. |
I'm waiting for an update on the capacity. 60 GB seems pretty small by todays storage standards. I'm guessing it's only a matter of time before Sony increases the capacity to 120 , 160 or 180 GB. I have heard that it's a special shock resistant hard drive, so maybe that's why they don't have a higher capacity model, one hasn't been invented yet. :)

Work
If this is a 'mortgage-paying-project' perhaps you should use what you know works rather than take the chance that you'll have a failure. Your choice, clearly, but I'd practice on it first before taking an unnecessary risk.

Yea, like i said, we've got enough SxS cards to get by.. i think we'll take the harddrive, but only use it if we get stuck.. just like we'll only use my Delkin adapters if we get stuck.
