Install firmware v1.1 yourself?

I remember a while ago people on this site were installing firmware v1.1 themselves as downloaded from a site in Asia somewhere ( Korea or Singapore?) .
I got that download but never did try to do the install.

Now that the new SD card fix is out there I'd like to do that install after all.
Is this recommended?
Were people successful or were there problems?
Does anybody remember how you do it?

that's exactly why I upgraded firmware - to be able to use SDHC cards;
pretty straight forward, two steps procedure, takes about 10 min
there should be pdf install guide included with the files,
PM me if you need any info,

Did my upgrade myself. Easy. No problems since.

Did any of you DIY upgraders bring the camera in for service since the upgrade? And if you did, did Sony say your warranty is void since you upgraded it yourself?

I took mine to the sony service centre in the uk after i did the upgrade.
The eject mechanism broke on my EX1, i waited in reception while they fixed the camera, when it was handed back to me i noticed that the panel which covers the sockets (and the hidden usb socket) was open, so someone had had that off for some reason.

Also i have replaced my clamp mic holder for a shoe.

None of this was mentioned by sony service personnel.

Paul.

Just pay the cost

My EX1 came with new firmware.
But if in the future, I have to upgrade it, and pay the cost: I will.
The chance of screwing up the warranty is too big.
I do think that Sony is not fair about it. As a member of Canon's CPS program for professional photographers I have been taking my canon DSLRs for almost 5 years for yearly clean up and firmware upgrade (if needed), here in Toronto. No cost!
Go figure.
