Speakers in Cheek Guard

2 Attachment(s)
I think Alister Chapman did this first?
But I fitted 2 speakers into the Cheek Guard today.
I bought a small pair of headphones cut and shortened the cables, then drilled holes into the Cheek Guard and glued the ear pieces in.
Works great, not for serious audio work of course, but just for confidence checking when on the move that the effects mike is working.

Very neat Mark. I don't understand why Sony didn't do this themselves, it's not exactly difficult and they are not expensive components.

I really like this customization. How do they sound - are they real "tinny" or by placing your ear against them so they have decent sound?

Once again, here is where I miss the earphone on my JVC-HD100. JVC used an earpad instead of a cheekpad - good choice, I think.

And per the manufacturer, you should have used Sony headphones (just kidding!).

The sound is good, not good enough for proper audio recording but
you can hear everything clearly and without distortion.
The headphones were called Logik HP-040B.
Here in the UK they were 7 UK Pounds.
Obviously better the headphones better the sound will be.

awesome! Finally a use for the check guard!

Neat, but your just setting yourself up for non critical monitoring of audio, that will end up biting you in long run, because it was just easier and faster to just listen to those instead of using headphones. You'll be "assuming". "The mic is working, but is it working well, only way to know for sure, headphones".
Only thing I could see that being useful for, would be for playback so the client could hear.

I am very disciplined when it comes to audio, having spent my first 4 years as a Sound Recordist.
When the Mic kit comes out, so does the Beyer headphones!
As you said ideal for the Client to listen back to some footage.

Just about every full size pro camera ever made has a small monitor speaker. I have always found them useful.
