EX1 Audio Problem
I have a new EX1 and NTG-2 and have batteries in the Rode for power. Last night, the NTG-2 worked great but this morning, it was having problems. The windscreen and dead cat were both on this morning due to the wind, and it seems stronger gusts(20mph) of wind would cause the audio to completely dropout. The 2nd channel was using the internal mic and it didn't have any issues(I also had a Rycote wind muff for the EX1's internal mic). I checked the cable, put mic parallel to wind and even switched channels.
I was wondering if it was due to a setting on the EX1 or the mic. Thanks |
Possibly the internal limiter kicking in too aggressively?

I had a very similar problem this past weekend outdoors using Sennheiser 416. My guess also that it's the limiter.

Make sure you cover every gap/hole on the NTG2. They let in amazing wind noise through the XLR connector and the little filter switch. Try blowing very gently through these and listen through headphones. You will be amazed at how vulnerable these points are to wind noise. The problem goes away once they are covered or taped up.
