Yes DV downconversion to the output connectors is included in the basic camera.

Alister, I don't have the camera at the moment, please can you tell me if you can record in HD and playback a DV stream out of firewire or is it just the monitor outputs? Can it output DV through Firewire whilst recording in HD? Thanks.

I'll have to check tomorrow, but I don't think it can downconvert over the firewire connection.

Thanks mate, I suddenly wondered whether I could do without the DV card!

PMW-350 sd/hd

I have just purchased my 350, i collected it on Friday and I am in the process of putting it through its' paces.

I can edit multi cam using Edius Broadcast 5 realtime, this for me elimintaes any need for SD upgrade (or down grade). I use FCP for colour / motion only.

I own a firestore and i shall be testing the 1394 output. The only benefit of shooting SD for me would be saving media space. I would aslo be interested to hear from anyone who is using broadcast A or J v HA or HJ lenses on the 350.

Get a nanoFlash. It records SD with 4:2:2 colour at 50Mbits and it does all XDCAM flavours of HD at 4:2:2 at various bitrates up to 180 Mbit.

Costs more than the Sony SD sidegrade but you get WAY more out of the deal.

Hi Mike
I have just tested the output of the 1394 DV stream when shooting in HD, it appears to out put SD/DVCAM, however you can't play back HD footage and output through the 1394 firewire, at least Sony have let this slip through! :-)
