slow to convert to MXF even when the file already in laptop (clip browser)

if I try to convert the raw files to MXF for Vegas it takes quite a long time (more than 10 mins for say a 40 mins clip shot at full HD), even if the bpav is already on the computer

I always thought that the encoding to MXF happened simultaneously as importing, so my guess was that simply encoding (when the file is already in the laptop) from MP4 to MXF should only take a fraction of the time it took to export....

my workflow is that I use the Express Port on my vaio to take the files from the EX1, as it's MUCH faster than using the clip broswer (USB), but then I loose the same amount of time in converting to MXF!!

The problem for me is that if I start and stop the camera a lot while shooting (most common) I end up with 60-200 mp4 files each of which has to be converted to a separate mxf file. I hate that and it takes a long time. Then you have to add them all to the timeline. I end up with a bunch of gaps when I "select all" and drag 200 mxf files to the Vegas 8 timeline.
