Upgrading advice

I mostly shoot sports and primarily use an EX1R, which is great. Occasionally I need a second cam and have an AX2000 that I like pretty well. A while ago I got caught up in the shallow depth of field fervor and got a 7d and some good primes. I used it once on a short interview segment, but never liked dealing with the limitations.

I've been thinking about selling the AX2000 and 7d+glass and getting a second EX1R, which I don't really have to do, but I hate to have unused gear sitting around depreciating. I considered waiting for the upcoming MFT Panasonic, but I had a GH1 for a while and thought that the Panasonic implementation of the AVCHD codec wasn't nearly as good as Sony's.

I generally don't wait for the next great camera, but it does seem like there should be a bunch of new models incorporating VDSLR features on the near horizon. Think it would make sense to upgrade now or should I sit tight for a while? Thanks, any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Sony NEX-VG10. Some DVInfo sponsors are already taking pre-orders. Downside no XLR in, 60i only. I'd bet a "Pro" version will be out within a few months.

If you're thinking of getting a second EX1r, I think you're on the right track as opposed to getting those large sensors or DSLRs. If your shoots are primarily sports, shallow depth of field will work against you. Just my opinion....

At the very least wait a few weeks. There is a big trade show coming up, IBC, where there are some major product announcements expected. The popular wisdom, right now is, the DSLR phenomenon has got the video camera companies scrambling to stop bleeding market share. Apparently there are a number of products in the pipeline about to be released now and in the coming few months. A game changer could come out at this trade show. We'll have to wait and see.
