Putting together the gear for our Dance film

Shot a bit of test footage today with all the new gear finally assembled. We're shooting a narrative contemporary dance film early next year - Gentle Spirit Dance Film | A narrative dance film based on a work by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Shooting with an EX1, Letus adapter, Nikon lenses. Bought a Small HD DP6 monitor to help with focus when we're using the adapter.

So far trialling the adapter is interesting. Wasn't expecting such a hit on light. Feels like more than 1 stop drop even though it probably isn't. Feel we'll have to put a fair bit of light on the dancers.

It also took me ages to setup the gear: mattebox, dof, monitor, follow focus etc, and I didn't really get the balance right on the rails, sheesh.

The other thing I noticed is the dof adapter gets a real cloudy soft sort of look to it if you over expose into bright light. Guess that's the groundglass. It's a look, which if you like it you're in luck, but I think it'll also take a bit of getting used to the gear to avoid it.

I'm sure you will get great results, although the setup looks very cumbersome - Heath Robinson springs to mind. Do you realy need the Letus kit for a dance film, or would a Canon 5D, 7D or Nikon HDSLR be a better option?
