Re: Purple Spot

Dust is a real and typical problem of digital imaging, not only in video, but also and especially in still photography. I mostly work as a photographer in dusty areas such as concert venues, and even if I wouldn't change lenses, some zooms are real dust-suckers. Especially lenses like the Canon 24-105. Changing lenses only makes matters worse, of course.
Now cleaning dust off the sensor in a DSLR - or videocamera, for that matter -is quite simple: just use the right tools (wet swabs etc...). The automatic dust removal in Canon DSLR's does work all right, too. To check if there's dust, make an out of focus shot of an even subject with the smallest aperture possible. Anything that is present on lens or sensor will then certainly show up. More so at the wide angle end of course.

All this to point out that dust on the sensor of an EX1 is something entirely different: it has no removable lens and so there should be no dust on the sensor block, unless it is also 'sucked in' by the lens. In the latter case, that would prove to be a design fault in the lens. In any case, dust on the sensor block of an EX1 should always be removed free of charge by Sony service, as far as I'm concerned. Even when the warranty is void. It is something the user cannot help, so Sony should take it's responsibility here.
