F3 Lens / Camera Communication
Is there any speculation on whether the F3 will, at some point, be able to compensate for optical flaws, like CA? Or will this be done in post, with data from the lens? Something in Peter Crithary's presentation gave me this impression, but I wasn't taking notes. My HPX-500 has CAC--just wondering if this sort of feature will be implemented, as a way of improving the performance of the zooms Sony will be selling.

CA shouldn't be as bad as with a 3 chip camera as there is no big thick prism to cause further aberrations. It will still be there but with decent glass should be minimal.

I understand what you're saying about the prism, but I'm still curious: is there any indication that Sony may use software to compensate for optical deficiencies? |
If they do it will most likely only work with lenses equipped with data connections which would then exclude most of the cheaper lenses, including DSLR lenses.

I heard from a friend at Sony that their may be some amount of CAC enabled on their prime lenses. Having projected one of the lenses I can say that they do not need much if any. CAC would be nice on the upcoming zoom lenses however.

Andy, that's exactly what I was driving at.
Good still camera lenses are cheap enough, but the zooms for still cameras have some serious drawbacks, if I'm going to use them on a video camera. Sony's 14x lens for the F3 is either going to be quite expensive or it's going to need some help, I think. |
