Doug's other products are good, but I think he's really nailed it with the F3 guide.

Just ordered it too. I know many of the basics (as demonstated in the sample WB chapter), but it's always good to refresh, and it's good to get tips and advice from a source such as Doug. Looking forward to getting it.

Good question.
Right now I do intend on doing something later this summer, but there are several factors that may change my mind. We''l have to see how it plays out. Thanks for asking.

Thanks Doug, I received my DVD today and enjoyed it, I learned a lot today, it was really good information and a great presentation. I would have preferred to have learned more about the feature settings in the Picture Profile section and less on the EX FCP workflow as most of us know the tapeless workflow already.
Great work by Vortex Media.

Re: Preview of Vortex Media's PMW-F3 Training DVD

Hi MIchael,

Thanks for the feedback, it is very helpful.
Even at four hours long, it is always a challenge choosing what topics to cover, and how much time to spend on each topic for a camera that appeals to such a wide range of users. For every person who says they wanted more about A and less about B, there's going to be someone else who says he wanted more info about B and didn't care about A. It's a fine line to walk sometimes. Anyway, I'm not making excuses, just explaining why things are they way they are. Your feedback does help me gauge whether I got it right or not. Thanks!

Re: Preview of Vortex Media's PMW-F3 Training DVD

Doug,
Just got the disks and went straight to the Lens section. Terrific work. You really laid it out for many of us who are in the middle of deciding what the F3 can be lensed with. Im hoping the 11-18 sony vari zoom will be available soon, meantime I ordered the Nikon 17-35 2.8 as a stand in as well as the Tonika 11-16 2.8.
In a few weeks I'll sell my Zeiss ZF kit (21,28,50,85,100) along with the above lens and go with a set of the Zeiss CP.2's and the Sony 11-18. I'll keep my Nikon 80-200 2.8 and the MTS adapter. Great Zoom.
Any interested parties please e mail me off list. xdhd@mac.com

I'd love a set of CP2's. I think they are excellent lenses for the money. I assume Denis that you know that the ZF.2 and CP2 glass is the same.

Dennis Dillon May 16th, 2011 01:55 PM

Re: Preview of Vortex Media's PMW-F3 Training DVD

Alister,
I realize the ZF's are the same glass. But it would be nice to have the extra blades, and the longer focus rotation. Does anybody know what the focus up change is in degrees for a cine mod on lets say the Zeiss 50mm? Im using the Redrock 32 adapter gears now. Leonard I have not upped the lens yet. I have not had a free week to send them off.

Re: Preview of Vortex Media's PMW-F3 Training DVD

Hi Doug. I've had the DVDs for quite some time now and I've been meaning to comment on this thread for a few weeks since watching them.

Firstly, I thought I knew everything I needed to know about the F3 since I was one of the first to get shipment from Able Cine, I've been shooting it for a few solid months and already wrapped on a few projects (which looked very good).

When I first got my F3, I actually READ the manual (odd I know). I went through menus and tried to understand all of the options, I thought I had a decent understanding. I wasn't sure if the DVDs would teach me anything I didn't know but I wanted them anyway.

After watching the DVDs, I realized there were more than a few concepts I was just plain, not understandingly correctly. Your explanations of what the menu items and functions *really* mean, really helped me dial my camera in much better. I especially liked walking through the picture profile settings and the step by step creation of the Vortex PP. I'm really hoping you come up with some more picture profiles and post them as camera profiles, or even LUTs when S-log is available.

Again, thanks for the excellent DVD set. Well worth the money and I appreciate you guys putting the set together so quickly after the F3 release. I'll be keeping my eye out for future releases.

Hi Aaron,

That is one of the best compliments I could ever ask for on the DVD. You made my day (probably month) and I thank you very much for taking the time to post your comments. THANKS!

I have to hardly second that!

Excellent training about the F3 specially for those like me coming from more than 15 years of using Panasonic Broadcast.

Very helpful... Mandatory!

Congrats, Doug...

And keep it coming about S-Log & LUT's!

A very nice taster and of quality worthy the of PMW-F3. First class lighting but importantly, it seems to cover all the bases. Congratulations Doug
