Possible 1080p 50p/60p slow-motion workflow for PIX240?
 

Hi guys,

I'm wondering if this would this work as a possible 1080p slow-motion workflow for the F3 using the PIX240?

- Connect PIX240 via HD-SDI monitoring output
- Record overcranked (50p/60p) 720p25 to internal camera media
- Playback the footage on the camera
- Record the playback on the PIX with upscaling from 720p25 to 1080p25

Obviously you're not getting native 1080p resolution, and I assume you'd only be getting 4:2:0 colour information, but would this workflow work for having slow-motion 1080p footage to blend with the rest of your standard speed 1080p footage?

That may work but why not conform the frame rate with software and bring it into your project as is? You can use a utility such as FFMPEG to change the playback frame rate without recompressing the video.

I use Media Composer and it is no problem to bring 720 footage into a 1080 project.

Pix240 does scaling, but I doubt will do frame remapping. Your best bet is just drop your over cranked footage on a 1080p timeline in the fps you want and then do a post zoom of 50% to bring your 720p footage up to 1080p.

This is what I do with all my over cranked footage and although it is a "blow up" it is very difficult to detect even to the keen eye.

Thanks guys. I've got an F3 on the way, so I'll give the different workflows a try when it arrives and try to figure out which is easiest overall.

I could understand wanting to do this so you don't have to go through a computer and transcode again, it makes sense if you are just handing the footage over to someone and don't want them to have to worry about all the technical bits.
