My $5 mount for vehicles in motion

I've been filming from motorcycle for a couple years now, using one DIY-mount on the rear and one purchased tank mount. A project came up that required some low angle footage of the front of cars at speed from a stable platform. I found this to be simple, cheap and effective. In its initial creation I did not need the flexibility of pan/tilt. However, I have since added a heavy-duty Manfroto pan/tilt fluid head to the unit. The steel cost me about $5 at the hardware store and the head was from a broken tripod, so that didn't cost me anything. Only tools required are hacksaw and drill (w/ bits).

Hi David
Very cool!

care to elaborate as to how exactly did you connect the steel plate to the car?

thanks!
Lior

I suppose the picture is deceiving. The steel is just a piece of angle, like an 'L' shape 2"x2" and about 18" in length. Simply put a 5/8" hole in one face at the proper location and then insert the hitch pin. The steel is actually a little too large to fit in the receiver off the shelf, so I ground down the two edges until it just barely fit - even takes a little effort to force it in - which takes out any slop.
