Hi all,
Just wondering. With the Glidecam V-8, can a person use
the sled seperately from the arm and vest (i.e. handheld) or
would you need to also purchase something like the Glidecam 2000 for handheld work?

Better start eating your spinach, you'll need some pretty big forearms!

The gimbal handle isn't designed to be held up by hand. You could use it like a "weighted stick" (I kinda dig that I've been seeing that phrase in various threads, should I trademark it?) but realistically, only for very short periods of time. So, why would you want to do that anyway, Dave?

it is technically possible to use the V-8 as a handheld device, however the sheer weight of the sled along with the fact that the curved gimbal handle itself wasnt made for handheld work could make it extremely difficult.

if you are indeed planning on doing both, it's probably much much easier in the long run to pick up a handheld stabilizer of some sort.

I would just like to note that Casey and I did not compare notes before posting essentially identical thoughts within 2 minutes of each other. A little scary!

at the time i started typing my reply, no one had yet posted, and you managed to get one in before i hit the submit button! that is scary ;)

Got the V16 sled today, ahhhh thats better :-)

Thanks guys for all the help, I now need to decide if I want to keep the V16 arm aswell as the sled, don't know if my wallet will take it but common sense says I should keep the V16 arm too and give myself a bit of growing room. What would you do?

John.

Keep the arm, unless you really can't afford it. Growing room is always smart.
