Yea Chas,

How about a "Steadicam-Advanced" training DVD staring Charles Papert. There are so many more advanced topics that you could cover than what we were able to cover on our first "Stabilizer Basics" training DVD.

Your explanations are alway great!

See you at NAB.

I've never stopped thinking about it, gents...have been teaching an advanced workshop through the Steadicam Guild incidentally, search around for the link to the workshop page. There's a clip of one of the fiendish shots I designed for the students in there too).

With more and more people buying stabilizers, the number of potential eyeballs have increased--I do worry about how many of them will be more likely to download the inevitable torrent version rather than pony up the $99 these days.

Hey Charles, you make it and I'll place the first order.

Peter Chung February 11th, 2009 05:33 PM

Charles,

I think it's a pretty small niche and it's not likely to get "torrent"-ized, especially if it's being sold directly through you and people have a point of contact with you through the sales process and on the forums.

You can also kindly ask your buyers not to leak it. I'm sure you could come up with a clever parody so that people won't want to pirate your DVD because you're so likeable ;)

Charles,

I'd pony up for one and even help you make it if I can get to where you are.

I can be the example of everything NOT to do! I'm perfect for that part. :)

Danny O'Neill February 23rd, 2009 06:48 PM

Charles, if you make it, they will come.

By 'they' I mean we and by 'come' I mean buy :)

Randy Panado February 23rd, 2009 07:06 PM

Put me in the line for "would buy". Please make it! :)

Danny O'Neill February 25th, 2009 04:01 PM

Dave, for your lock offs do you have optical image stabilization on or off?

Hi Danny,
Always leave OIS off. A steadicam lock-off is always part of a shot that has movement, otherwise it wouldn't use steadicam. OIS makes a lot of the moving parts look jerky.
