I recently tested the latest Transvideo Steadicam monitor and have seen the others in use. I'm actually hoping to organize a comprehensive monitor "shoot-out" in the coming months--plant them all next to each other in broad daylight and see which ones cut the mustard. Daylight viewability is the biggest stumbling block for LCD's against the tried-and-true CRT's--it's a tough one to let go of (off axis viewing is the next major issue).

I do however believe that for anyone buying a rig right now, an LCD would be the way to go. I think that in the next year or two a lot of established operators will start moving to HD LCD's and there should be a bunch of CRT's on the used market, so if you have a hankering to own one of each, it would make sense to start off with the LCD. One great thing is that even the most expensive LCD is still far less than we spent for our green screens (which still sell for $13-15K new).
