Nikon "strikes back," if you will

I say that title with tongue firmly in cheek.

The D3 and the D300 have been officially announced! If you ask me, they're pretty close to the Canon cameras announced Monday.

Wait, the D300 and D3's sensors are CMOS; weren't they using CCD?

Poor Nikon, always a step behind Canon.

Although I have to say, the digital horizon level is brilliant. That should be a must have feature on entry level D-SLRs, and any other digital camera.

Dylan,

I can see a Canon vs. Nikon fight break out, lol. I think both cameras are great. My Director of Photography and Gaffer each had a 20D and 30D, respectively, on my movie set last October. They captured some incredible behind-the-scenes shots my little Canon A60 point-and-click never could've done.

The Key Grip went out and bought a D50 and over 6 months later, I grabbed the D40x. Funny how everyone's "keeping up with the Joneses" in some way, even if it's with DSLR cameras. I brought my D40x onto a set and I heard someone wanted to buy an XT or XTI, I think.

I know, I'm shamelessly trolling... :)

Well, if it makes you feel any better, you can make fun of my now ancient Canon 10d. :)

Never!

You can say whatever you want, but I love my D70! No need to change at all.

D3 has HDMI (and a/v) out!

Heath McKnight August 23rd, 2007 07:05 PM

It does, really? HDMI? All-in-one cameras are making bigger strides than I thought.

Surprise number two is that it's the same price as the D2xs ($4,999.95), not the ridiculous $8,000 of Canon's three-day-older 1Ds Mk III.
;-)

If I could convince myself I needed a $5,000 camera I'd pickup a D3 right away! A one megapixel LCD panel and live view.... wow. I would really like a full frame DSLR so I can get the full effect from my 14mm f2.8 Nikkor :-)

Heath McKnight August 23rd, 2007 07:18 PM

D300 has that same viewfinder. I want to see that sucker, because when my friends with slightly older Canons and Nikons see my D40x, they're blown away by how large, bright and clear the LCD is! That's better than a lot of video cameras' LCDs.

Pro still site RobGalbraith.com says it does 1080i and 720p.

It’s on both of them.

Finally Nikon decided to replace the D200. When it first came out, it was truly a remarkable camera and with the successor having HDMI and Live view through a new revolutionary LCD screen, this thing is going to rock.

It’s a pleasure seeing both Canon and Nikon releasing replacements of their top professional DSLR cameras at around the same time.

According to this article, the D3 lacks the self cleaning sensor that the D300 has. For that much more money than the D300, it should have had it as well.

I posted elsewhere that I'm looking forward to reading the bug reports in a few weeks.
