preannouncing a year in advance seems like a good strategy to get potential d90 buyers to think again. the big camera companies can't preannounce this far in advance for fear of poaching sales of current models (of which red has none in the same category). probably also a good move to deal with the unsophisticated buyer's inevitable $1k vs. $16k comparison (what is a red one selling at these days?).
