Unboxing the Matrox Monarch HDX
 

Sure it's not the latest model that was just released at NAB (targeting the live lecture recording market with on-the-fly selectable PiP options etc), but it's still a very nice bit of gear.

This one has the ability to custom encode the content (via SDI or HDMI) to two different streams/destinations at once, such as both YouTube and Facebook Live. Very handy, that.

The leading reason for the purchase was so that we can webstream an event in October from the middle of the street in Melbourne. Combined with an internet connection via 4G, we can do a top quality stream with this thing.

This particular conference was another event where I knew that it could be used to bring it through to regional branches of the organisation whom in turn can organise their own satellite events.

This sort of thing really is highly dependent on access to a good stable internet connection ... preferably one that is wired. (The 4G connectivity for the Melbourne job will be via a bonded cellular unit for maximum bandwidth and reliability.)

Then there is always whatever other jobs come up in the meantime, subject to a suitable internet connection at the event location.
