Insurance Questions - help!

Hi guys, I am shooting an event in late august. The hotel is demanding the following insurance, does the additional insured section make sense? I dont know if I am supposed to ensure the marriot corp and their entire convention center? Help guys ... thanks. Also, can someone recommend a co for the general liability insurance?

/// START LETTER \\\

A certificate of insurance will need to be placed on file and will need to include the following information.

The certificate will need to carry two million dollars in general liability and list the below parties as the additional insured.

-The Village of Schaumburg
-Marriott International
-The Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center

/// END LETTER \\\

It makes sense, most locations will require a 1 or 2 million dollar policy.

As for insurance, try http://www.taylorinsurance.com/

They are really great. They can get you a one year policy for general liability.

You just hand that letter to your insurance agent and tell him to do whetever is needed to satisfy the conditions.

Thanks guys! What about this part ...

/// list the below parties as the additional insured.

-The Village of Schaumburg
-Marriott International
-The Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center \\\

Is it usual to insure a corp, a village, and a convention center? I dont understand this?

Any guess as to how much this will cost me?

Ill check out the referral, thanks again!

Can WEDJ insurance cover this?

Don Bloom July 18th, 2008 09:17 PM

I don't think WeDJs policy is what they are looking for but I could be wrong
This is a liability policy that prevents the listed from being sued. A party at the event can sue you but not them for your actions.

I've done stuff at the Renaissance and never had to provide proof of insurance or a letter to indemnify them or the village BUT it depends on the type of work you're doing there.

BTW, I'm about 5 minutes from the Renaissance. It's a pretty cool place. Parking lot is a long way out though. :-(

I think the WeDJ policy will work but you may want to contact the agent to verify. the certificate ( at least as it was explained to me ) doesnt prevent the hotel from being sued, it includes them under your 'umbrella' should something happen.<edit-until determination is made on their invlovement>
a few years ago, I was doing some shooting inside a local steel mill and had to provide the certificate listing US Steel Corp as an additional insured party.

--of course, they had a five page wavier covering themselves in case of any accidents...the words maimed or killed were used alot.

If one of your lightstands falls on someone, they're going to sue either you, the venue, the venue's owners, the town, or most likely all of you together as co-defendents. The insurance provision simply says your policy would cover anyone the plaintif sues as a result of the incident, not just the share of the damages attributed directly to you. Otherwise the venue and the city with their deep pockets could be left holding the bag for damages that are actually your fault.

It makes sense now - thanks to everyone who shared their knowledge. I appreciate it very much!
