180 hours of 8mm video to DVD?

I have a corporate client who (for reasons known only to them) recorded a series of focus groups onto 8mm video.

180 hours of focus groups!

Now, of course, they want to dub them to DVD.

I don't know if it's 180 1-hour tapes or 90 2-hour tapes, and I don't want to know.

Anyone know an outfit that might have multiple 8mm decks feeding DVD burners and could do this in a vaguely reasonable turnaround for less than a kings ransom?

Just a shot in the dark.

TIA

Wow, thats a lot of footage. I'm guessing they're 60 minute tapes, but could be wrong. You'll probably have to farm it out to a couple of houses? Find some in your area that do it - and split the work load?

I just realized that I likely posted this in the wrong forum.

Mod: Sorry - feel free to move it where it fits best!

Thanks.

If its not Hi8, its two hour tapes, if filled normally.

So, whats "not a King's ransom" ? If they bought themselves a Digital 8 camera or deck, and dedicated an employee to doing it, Then you got to figure they would put $ 30 plus an hour plus costs doing.... Some where around $ 6,000.00 to $ 6,500.0. And then do you want back up of the material digitally somewhere so they don't go through this again ? So storage for that should be created. So way I see it, they need 180 hours of storage someway or another. That actually likely means digitizing first, then transcoding to .mpg dvd. More time involved.

Certainly direct transfer with multiple disks reduces the time involved, but, what about investment return for the guy that has all that equipment.

So if your guys are looking for a $ 1,000 or less deal, I don't think that is realistic.

So it looks like they have to consider someone like this:

AMB Media Services - Specializing in video transfers to DVD & DVD duplication.

Chris,

Thanks for the link.

I'll pass this along to the client. Thankfully, it's not something the client expects me to do - they were just looking for a referral.

Again, thanks.
