I looked at the Canopus packages. The one that I'd be interested in was around $1400. Since Matrox is offering an "upgrade" to Pinnacle Pro users for $599 (through March), simple economics has determined my decision. ;)

Incidently, I've made the switch to Premiere Pro and I'm not looking back. It's more stable than 6.5, reasonably intuitive, and runs like a clock on my new 2.8 GHz system. It's real-time rendering is adequate, though just barely (which is why I want the Matrox card), and 'til I get the card I can make do with previewing by attaching my monitor to an old miniDV camcorder which gets a firewire feed from Pro.
